'Vismaya - An Indo Celtic
Musical Journey' is a CD recording that explores the
wonder of the nottusvara sahityas of Muthusvami
Dikshitar.
The genre of music that is the nottusvara
sahityas is neither completely Indian nor
completely western and it is both at the same time.
Part I released in March 2008 of the recording
features 19 of the nottusvara sahityas. Part
II released Oct 4, 2008 features the remaining 20.
Vismaya captures this wonder through a
contemporary rendition of this music with Indian
voices and largely Celtic orchestration.
Vismaya
is a historic recording. It represents the first
time that the entire genre of music has been
recorded and published. Music written in the Indian
notation is available for 38 of the 39 compositions.
The 39th composition has been arranged by
Kannikeswaran to the melodic contour of an ancient
band tune in a similar genre.
A 20 page illustrated booklet providing lyrics,
translation and background information is provided
with each CD.
The recording ‘Vismaya - An Indo Celtic Musical
Journey’ is absolutely marvelous. It should be owned
and cherished by every musician. Works like this go
a long way in building bridges between different
cultures. Kannikeswaran deserves accolades for this
inspiring work..

Shri Kanniks has done yeoman service to the music
community by attempting to popularize these rare
sahityas, providing the listener with a library of
these compositions sung in the very style the
composer would have wanted them to be rendered..
Dr. P. P. Narayanaswami (Canada)
Once again, Kanniks has introduced us to a new
sound world. The sweet joyous and pure music sung by
Vidita Kanniks is an auspicious beginning for a
virtuosic twelve year old.
