Vismaya performance
receives spontaneous standing ovation at Reception held
in honor of India's 11th President His Excellency Dr.
Abdul Kalam
'Vismaya - A Cultural wonder' created, directed and
produced by Kanniks Kannikeswaran was performed to a
moved audience at a reception held in honor of the
historic visit of India's 11th president His Excellency
Dr Abdul Kalam to Lexington KY on Monday the 24th of
March at the Marriot Hotel Resort.
Earlier that evening Dr. Kalam had expressed this
message to NRIs - 'To render India proud of you, do the
best you can for the country that you are a citizen of'.
The evening was marked by a lecture and a discussion
initiated by the ever energetic President with prominent
citizens of Kentucky and a large gathering of guests.
Vismaya - a multimedia mini-production featuring a
children's choir (students of the American School of
Indian Art) accompanied by visuals and a powerful
narrative expressing message of inclusiveness that
characterizes the ancient Indian spirit was presented at
the conclusion of the evening.
This mini production
explored the feeling of wonderment - through the
paradigm of the nottusvara Sahityas of Muthusvami
Dikshitar - an Indo Celtic musical genre that is
both Indian and Celtic at the same time. This genre of
music came into being in the early 1800s in India during
the time of the rule of the British East India company.
The entire audience including the dignitaries and His
Excellency Dr. Abdul Kalam stood up and applauded the
cast as the brief performance came to a moving end.
